the mid 1960's during the the Marcos administration the decision
was made
to erect the San Juanico Bridge (aka "Marcos Bridge") over San Juanico Strait from Bgy. Cabalawan, Tacloban City, Leyte,10 KM from the city proper (Leyte Capital) to Sta Rita Municipality, Western Samar, 96 KM from Catbalogan (Samar Capital). |
In
1968 the Construction and Development Corporation of the
Philippines was awarded
the Contract to Design, Finance and Construct the Enormous Engineering Project. CDCP's design and engineering staff, together with Japanese engineers, undertook a detailed survey, study and analysis and began Construction of the Bridge Completed in 1973.. |
